President Barbara Kerr called the meeting to order at 7pm in the Relief Society Room of the LDS Church with 25 members and 3 guests present. Guests Nancy Hardesty, John Hartge and Barbara Wall were welcomed. The Member Notebook was circulated.
Mac Bonnett read the minutes of the March 11 meeting which were accepted as presented. Barbara presented a brief review of the April 8th meeting at the Register of Deeds Office and the May 13th meeting at Craven Community College with Jordan Jones.
Mack Ballard gave the Treasurer’s report.
Vice President Rosa Johnson reviewed future programs.
Louise Knight provided a status report on the NCGS Workshop in 2009. The date has not been set yet. The next meeting of the planning group will be August 19 at the LDS church. Anyone interested in joining the group should contact Louise.
Barbara mentioned several upcoming items: KinTracks deadline for the summer issue is July 7; Beginner Genealogy classes are planned for October 11, 18, 25 and Nov 1; Nominating committee will be appointed at Sept meeting; CCGS display at the New Bern Library will be in November. Barbara asked for member interest in the NC Cemetery Survey and Stewardship Program and advice on completing their questionnaire. Considerable discussing ensued with several members indicating an interest in pursuing.
Announcements of items that will be in KinTracks were made. Debbie Hodges stated that there will be a program on Indian Heritage in Greene Co sometime in August, more information later.
Rosa introduced the program “Exploring Ways to Share Our Collected Research” with a statement from Emily Ann Croom, “Leave for descendents what you wish your ancestors had left for you.” Rosa Johnson, Mac Bonnett, Mack Ballard, Jerri Fiolek, Bill Ash, Barbara Kerr and Jerri Moore all presented information on their activities in sharing. Rosa handed out a compilation of ideas on Sharing Your Family History. Cleo Hennon announced the Bob will have an article in a future issue of Genealogical Helper.
Guest John Hartge offered assistance with preserving/restoring old photos and negatives.
